Jacqui celebrates gold award

A HEALTH care assistant has been presented with her Duke of Edinburgh gold award at a ceremony at St James's Palace, London.

Jacqui Barnes, 21, from Steyning, received her certificate at a special ceremony on Thursday.

She gained her gold award through taking part in a range of activities over the last 18 months, including an expedition, physical recreation and a service section.

Jacqui, who chose first aid for her service section, has been a member of Steyning St John Ambulance for 10 years, and is a leader of the Badger group, where she has helped since she was 14 years old.

The former Steyning Grammar School pupil said of the award: "I am really happy to have finally received it.

"It was such a big achievement. It was hard work, so it was nice to get it."

After receiving the award, Jacqui celebrated with her mother and grandmother by going to see the Stomp show.
