Jailed for what wasdescribed by policeas a ‘vicious assault’

TWO brothers have been jailed for carrying out a vicious assault on man in Rye town centre.

The 42 year old victim was set upon at Landgate as he walked home from a pub on October 24 last year.

He suffered deep cuts to his face and right arm after being hit with a broken bottle and struck with a metal bar. He was also punched and kicked several times.

He required treatment from paramedics at the scene and was later treated at the Conquest Hospital.

Detective Inspector Rob Morland, of Hastings CID, described it as “A particularly vicious assault.”

Damien Brinkley, 22, of New Winchelsea Road, Rye, was sentenced to 20 months imprisonment at Lewes Crown Court for assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was also sentenced by magistrates to 26 weeks imprisonment to run concurrent.

This was for a separate case of battery which took place in Eagle Road, Rye last September.

Brother Ivor Brinkley Jnr, 23, from Eastbourne, was also sentence to 20 months in prison for ABH.

He received a further four months imprisonment to run consecutively for possession of an offensive weapon, relating to an incident in Ferry Road last September.

Both had pleaded guilty to all offences.

Rye police sergeant Warren Downs said: “We all hope that these sentences will serve as a deterrent and send out a clear message that violent crime and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated in Rye and Rother.”

Last October the brothers were sentenced at Hastings Magistrates Court after pleading guilty to using threatening behaviour following an incident at Rye Sports Centre on February 19 2013. Ivor Brinkley Jnr was fined £150 and ordered to pay additional compensation and costs totalling £195.

Damien Brinkley was fined £100 and also ordered to pay additional compensation and costs totalling £130. A third male youth who cannot be named was given a conditional discharge.

Ivor Brinkley Jnr was sentenced at Hastings Magistrates Court on the November 1 last year following an incident at Station Approach, Rye, on September 23. Brinkley pleaded guilty to causing racially aggravated harassment, alarm and distress and was fined £100 with additional costs of £65.
