He compared our genes to the instructions to build a Lego model and said if the instructions were not right, the model could look or work a bit differently.

Mr Lincoln explained those with gene disorders can also look or work a bit differently and they needed donations to help provide equipment and extra care.

Children and staff had worn their jeans into school for a donation of £1 and a total of £300 was raised towards the national Jeans for Genes Day target of £2.5million.

Head teacher David Etherton said: “Children were fascinated at finding out about genes and how they affect people. Our pupils also really enjoy wearing jeans, too!”

Jeans for Genes Day raises money for Genetic Disorders UK, the charity that aims to transform the lives of children with genetic disorders.
