Jobless dad fined £65

A JOBLESS father became abusive to police officers after he tried to tell them he had been assaulted, a court heard.

John Pannice, 19, approached police in Havelock Road in Hastings town centre at around 2am on May 22 to explain he was hit in the mouth but then lost his temper.

At a court hearing on Monday, Simon Allen, prosecuting, said police ordered Pannice, of St Margaret's Court, St Leonards Road, Bexhill, to leave the area and served a dispersal notice on him, banning him from returning to Havelock Road and Robertson Street within 12 hours.

Mr Allen said: "He left but returned 50 minutes later and was seen wearing a different T-shirt in Havelock Road. Officers as a result arrested him for the breach."

Pannice pleaded guilty to breaching the dispersal order when he appeared before Hastings magistrates.

Representing himself, Pannice said: "At the time I was angry as I'd been assaulted in the mouth.

"I asked for help and they (the police] were rude so I got the hump.

"I was walking to the taxi rank to get a cab home to Bexhill when I got arrested.

"I didn't have a chance to explain to officers."

Magistrates fined Pannice 40 and ordered 25 costs.
