Jobs key to Shoreham Harbour plans

THE future of Shoreham Harbour has been discussed in a meeting organised by the area's councils.

Community groups and organisations were invited to the meeting by Adur District Council, Brighton & Hove City Council and West Sussex County Council to air their views on the development.

He said: "People really wanted to share their point of view and many points were raised that will help form the options for the action plan and full public consultation next year.

"We want to protect the area's heritage and the best of what currently makes Shoreham, Southwick, Fishersgate and Portslade good places to live and work.

"But we need to tackle problems around pockets of deprivation in the area, improve education and skills, employment opportunities and housing."

Transport

It was found that jobs, housing and helping the community were among the top priorities for people living in and around the Shoreham Harbour area.

The need to improve transport was also raised as a concern.

The first step towards the harbour development is a Joint Area Action Plan which will set the planning framework for any future developments.

Further meetings will be held with representatives of groups who couldn't attend the event and people can share their views on the development at www.shorehamharbour.com
