Those who take part can write a message on their stars in return for a donation to the charity.

'I do hope that many of you will do as I am and get involved,' said Sir Patrick.

'The gift the charity gives of growing up with a sense of hope is, for a child who has experienced the death of a loved one, what we should all wish for.

'Winston's Wish is the charity that can make this wish come true and, for this, I urge you to support them and Wish Upon a Star this Christmas.'
