CHARITY runner Jayne Bigsby from Polegate just can not keep still – and she has been taking part in running race events across Sussex.

Mrs Bigsby, a former Polegate town councillor, who also runs the popular Polegate Strollers walking group, has taken part in the Hellingly 10K followed by the Littlehampton 10K during this past month, September.

The 51-year-old has been raising funds for The Children with Cancer Fund in Polegate and also Chestnut Tree House near Arundel.

Mrs Bigsby will also be taking part in a walking event to raise awareness of visual impairment, ‘Walk a Mile in My Shoes’, in Eastbourne tomorrow, September 22. Mrs Bigsby will wear adapted sunglasses restricting her vision to raise awareness for 20-year-old Chloe Laslett who lost most of her eyesight due to Leber’s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (LHON).

Mrs Bigsby said: “This is not a sponsored walk or a race, but an opportunity to raise awareness of blindness and visual impairment and to actually experience for one mile what it might be like.  People are encouraged to enter either as a pair or singularly and don a pair of specially adapted sunglasses which will give an insight into the effects various eye conditions have.  There will be a tombola stall as well as an information stand at either end of the walk.”

Registration for the walk is at 10am for an 11am startfrom Eastbourne Pier. People will walk to the Wish Tower and then to Afton Hotel for refreshments.

Mrs Bigsby added: “This event has been sponsored by Polegate Company PJ Skips and we are grateful for Blatchington Court Trust for taking part and the support from LOOK, a service that supports parents of visually impaired children.  Chloe Laslett and family will be delighted to have you join us and show your support.”

Final figures from Mrs Bigsby’s fundraising are not yet known but there is still an opportunity to give funds: The Children with Cancer Fund (; Chestnut Tree House ( and for ‘Walk a Mile in My Shoes’ ( and:
