Current owners Bruce and Gwyneth Wass are selling due to retirement. Bruce, a chef for 20 years in London, opened Thackeray’s Restaurant in Tunbridge Wells in 1984 which proved to be highly successful.

In 1998 he bought The Jolly Sportsman at a time when the country hostelry was taking less than £2,000 a week.
