Jubilee Jubilations

ORGANISERS have announced the final line-up for Littlehampton's jubilee bank holiday Big Day Out, on Tuesday.

The thousands expected to attend the seafront event can look forward to a magnificent seven acts from just after 4pm to the closing firework finale at 10pm.

Launching the jubilee jamboree at 4.10pm will be Scottish girls' pop foursome Lemonescent. Female soloist Jamie Benson takes over the microphone at 4.30pm.

Chichester band Sabio will take to the stage at 5.05pm, followed at 6.15pm by Essex girl group Urban Lady, including the actress who played former EastEnders character Nicky De Marco.

At 6.50pm it's the turn of Littlehampton's very own Cathy Burton to charm the crowd.

American rockers All Star United turn up the volume at 7.45pm and the biggest cheer of the night is guaranteed to greet Delirious? when they appear at 8.45pm.

Keeping the fun going between acts will be a DJ, Rustington-based escapologist Steve Legg and comic Tim Vine.

Other attractions from 3pm include at Art Attack tent with children's activities, a Giant Bike display team and a kite surfing display just offshore.

Bringing the evening to a close at 10pm will be a spectacular firework display, organised by Arun District Council, with help from the Town Centre Action Group and the Harbour Park amusement complex.

BILL Pertwee, a.k.a. the ARP warden from Dad's Army will be enjoying a cracking time at East Preston's jubilee celebrations on Monday.

He will be on hand to sign books and chat at the parish council's family fun day from 12.15pm-1.30pm and again from 2pm-2.30pm.

The fun starts at 11am on the Warren Recreation Ground and lasts until 4pm, where there will be plenty of fabulous stalls and events to make the day go with a bang.

You can take out your pent-up anger on the crockery smashing stand, or head straight for the licensed bar, or take it really leisurely and enjoy the tea dance.

Children will be spoilt for choice with a bouncy castle, mini disco, face painting and a '50s dress parade to take part in.

There will also be a picnic area, refreshments, live music and much, much more.

BINGO, a picnic and a party are all being laid on for residents of Warwick Court, Arundel, on Tuesday.

For the 31 residents of the housing scheme, the Queen's coronation is, no doubt, a day they remember very well.

And they will be able to celebrate her golden jubilee in style as they start their day with a coffee morning and private bingo session, followed by a picnic lunch.

In the evening, the residents are invited to a special party where some of them will be providing fun and entertainment.

ANGMERING parish council will mark the festivities with two super events, as well as presenting each of the village's three schools with a Jubilee Cup.

Angmering School will be rewarded for its achievements in the arts, St Margaret's is to be rewarded for achievement in historic studies and St Wilfrid's will be rewarded for achievement in humanities.

An open air service will be held by St Margaret's Church at 4pm on Sunday and a fete will be held on Monday from midday to 4pm.

Both events will be held on Fletcher's Field and everyone in the village is warmly invited to attend.

YOUNG members of the congregation at Rustington Methodist Church were delighted to receive a letter from the Queen, which they read out in church on Sunday.

This was a reply to a letter they had sent to Her Majesty, telling her about the church's celebrations and wishing her well for her jubilee year.

The Queen sent her good wishes and expressed the wish that: "your work will be particularly recognised in this jubilee year".

St Mary's Close Residents' Association have organised a street party on Monday from 3.30pm.

RUSTINGTON will be hosting a packed programme of jubilee events, starting with the carnival on Saturday, organised by the Littlehampton and District Lions Club.

The day starts with a procession through Rustington and a fete on the Woodlands recreation ground with a quiz held in the village hall at 8pm.

And it's time to tap into those creative skills with a super sand sculpture competition taking place on the beach, opposite the convalescent home on Sunday morning at 9am.

The rules are very straightforward, the competition is open to family groups of up to five members, with at least one child under the age of 12.

Each entry is permitted to use one item brought from home to decorate the sculpture.

Registration is between 9am and 9.15am and entrants then have between 9.30am and 11am to complete their work before the judging.

Prizes will be awarded at 11.30am.

Also on Sunday is an antiques fair at the Woodland Centre, followed by a prom concert at 8pm and a firework display at 10pm on the Woodland Recreation Ground.

Peter Bottomley MP will be opening the youth/sports day at the recreation ground on Monday, starting at 1pm.

Events include a pet show, baby show and fancy dress competition.

There will also be races with cash prizes, a gymnastics display, and by far the biggest attraction, slot car racing with the Fordpark Raceway.

A picnic party will be held, with a barbecue, live disco and a local rock band Axiomatica, starting at 6pm, meanwhile, a short-mat bowls tournament will take place in the Woodland Centre.

Things take a much more leisurely pace on Tuesday when, between 2pm and 5pm, a community tea dance will be held at the Woodland Centre, followed by an evening of song and dance, performed by the Sherry Lorraine Dance Troupe at 7.30pm.

SATURDAY marks the launch of the much anticipated Centre Stage musical event, held at Harbour Park.

Organised by Littlehampton Town Council and Littlehampton Museum, the event will see the unique inflatable bandstand aired in public for the first time.

Performances run from midday-4.30pm and all are welcome to attend and the free event.

St James Concert Choir start proceedings from midday-1pm, followed by a performance by singer Lorna Moore.

Eileen Chandler Variety Group will then take to the stage with their usual high standard of singing, dancing and all-round entertainment.

And, finishing the day on a high note will be traditional Irish band Legacy.

HARBOUR Park has also planned a series of events to mark the jubilee every day and it's all free.

Clown shows will take place at 3pm each day and there will also be opportunities to see bands, have a go at line dancing, and have your face painted. And watch out for those pirates!
