Just ask! - new village centre at your service

THREE new staff have been taken on to run Rustington's first village information centre.

The centre faces onto the busy Churchill Parade car park and its staff, employed by the parish council, will provide information on a wide range of services and organisations in the area.

Council chairman Graham Tyler officially opened the information centre on Mon-day, and said it would be a "great asset" for the community.

Store Properties, the company which owns much of Rustington's shopping centre, built the information centre as an extension to an existing block housing public toilets, which have been refurbished.

"Our thanks go to Store Properties," said Mr Tyler, "who have done this magnificent job in refurbishing the public toilets and providing the parish council with an information centre."

The centre is open six days a week, from 10am-4pm, Monday to Saturday, for Rustington residents and visitors alike.

As well as information on parish, Arun District and West Sussex County council services, staff will help with enquiries on local organisations, public transport, places of interest to visit and other subjects.

A number of services currently based at the parish council's Woodland Centre offices, including bookings for the youth centre and the Woodland Centre, can be made at the new premises, which for many people will now be the main reception area for the parish council.

Two other organisations using the Woodland Centre are also moving down to the new centre. Littlehampton and District Citizens' Advice Bureau is now holding its outreach session there on Tuesday mornings, by prior appointment through the main office at Littlehampton, telephone 01903 724010.

And the village's Police Community Support Officers are switching their drop-in surgeries to the centre, with the first scheduled for Saturday, March 25, from 11am-1pm.
