Just eight have Asbos

Eight people around the Arun district are subject to anti social behaviour orders.

The ASBOs restrict their activities and have been imposed after their actions have been proved to be a nuisance to others. Breaching the order is a criminal offence.

Another nine people have voluntarily signed acceptable behaviour contracts after they have caused concerns because of the way they have behaved.

The contracts last for six months. Failure to abide by them could lead to an ASBO being imposed.

A further eight individuals were subject to further sanctions to limit their ability to cause disruption.

The facts were given to the Bognor Regis Police Sector Neighbourhood Watch Association's annual meeting by Angela Hibbin, the anti social behaviour co-ordinator at Arun District Council.

She stated that ASBOs were applied across a wide age range and were not restricted to the under-18s as was commonly believed.

Other sanctions available to the police and the council to limit peoples' poor behaviour were eviction orders and contracts which they signed to acknowledge the need to avoid being a bad neighbour.
