Kate, who currently studies project design at Edinburgh University, was among 26 students who achieved the highest marks in Cambridge Pre-U subjects. All winners were rewarded with an official Cambridge certificate recognising their achievement.

Head of ceramics at Mayfield, Tim Rees-Moorlah said this achievement recognised Kate’s talent, dedication and commitment.

He said: “I was overjoyed to hear that Kate achieved her outstanding award. The national standard of work for Pre-U is exceptionally high and it is a clear recognition of the quality and maturity that Kate achieved in her submission. She has set a high bar for the other Pre-U students in our current sixth form but Mayfield girls are good at rising to a challenge.”

Michael O’Sullivan, Chief Executive, Cambridge International Examinations said: “Congratulations to Kate who has worked so hard to achieve this success in her Cambridge examinations. Topping the list of candidates in a Cambridge Pre-U subject is a

performance of the highest calibre. I offer sincere congratulations for this outstanding achievement.”

One hundred and seventy UK independent and state schools teach Cambridge Pre-U, which is recognised by universities in the UK and a growing number in the US, including all Ivy League colleges.
