A plea for improved litter clearance in Heathfield was made at a meeting of the parish assembly on Tuesday.

Mrs Carol Trimbee made the appeal on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce and it was echoed by Mrs Gill Roles chairman of the Millennium Green Trust who said there were 'enormous' problems with litter on the green.

'It is the trustee volunteers who go down on to the green to clear the litter and the last time we had a litter pick 22 black bags were collected over two hours.

'I would be very pleased if the parish council could sort out the problem for the benefit of the residents of Heathfield,' said Mrs Roles.

Mrs Trimbee requested bigger and better bins around Budgens and take- away shops. She revealed that the manager of Budgens had said their staff cleared litter every night before they left at 8pm but when she got back at 6am the problem was just as bad again.

Heathfield and Waldron parish council chairman Cllr Tony Trick said the litter problem had been worse over the last four or five months and was of considerable concern to the parish council. Discussions were going on with the district council about possible improvements.
