Jill dressed as one of the fruits and decorated a Christmas tree outside her home on The Grove with tomato items.

Her efforts boosted the annual week of the Barnham-based British Tomato Growers’ Association.

Jill said: “One of my clients, Julie Woolley, is the secretary of the association. Until I met her, I had no idea there was so much to learn about British tomatoes.”

The homegrown varieties are available from early March until the start of November. They come in so many shapes and sizes to disprove the notion that all tomatoes are red, round and six to the pound.

Jill’s Christmas tree is a survivor from the past festive season. It generated so many compliments she and her colleague, Katie Cleeves, decided to keep it all year.

It sported hearts and flowers for Valentine’s Day and chocolate eggs at Easter before tomato week arrived.

She also marked the week by giving away tomato recipe books and nutrition leaflets.
