Kevin’s vow to regain his seat

A former councillor, who lost his seat by just 65 votes at last month’s local election, says he will stand again after the man who usurped him resigned.

Liberal Democrat Kevin Dixon served as a Rother District Councillor for the Battle Town Ward for eight years until he lost his seat to Conservative candidate Martin Noakes.

But after just three weeks, ill-health forced Mr Noakes to stand down, prompting Rother to call a by-election for July.

This week, Mr Dixon confirmed he would return to fight for the seat.

He said: “I am delighted to confirm that I have been selected to stand in the forthcoming by-election in Battle in a bid to reclaim the seat I narrowly lost in May.

“I hope to regain the support of the people in Battle so I can continue the hard work of the last eight years I spent as the district councillor for Battle Town.

“The events leading up to this by-election have been bizarre and my thoughts and sincere best wishes are with Mr Noakes, who was placed in an impossible position by the Rother Conservatives.

“The local Tories must realise representing your community is a very important post, and those selected to stand for election must be willing and able to do a good job for four years for the benefit of their residents – something I intend to do again if elected.”

Mr Dixon said he has received many messages of support since his election defeat.

He added: “After over 15 years of being part of Battle Chamber of Commerce, Battle Town Council and most recently Rother District Council, it has felt strange not being involved in the heart of our town.

“I relish the chance to again be involved and to hopefully work with my Lib Dem colleague and district councillor Kathryn Field.”

If re-elected, Mr Dixon will focus on issues around parking, parking enforcement and High Street congestion.
