The project is part of West Sussex County Council’s Kick Start Programme and offers a free, full-body workout right by the sea.
The gym has a variety of equipment to help improve cardiorespiratory fitness, muscle strength and tone and flexibility but is only suitable for children over the age of 12.
Councillor Clive Roberts said: “Those striving to ‘get fit’, young and old, will benefit from a helping hand at the outdoor gym at Windsor Lawns. “People will be able to exercise and enjoy the fresh air at the same time.
“Generations can be brought together which could help to improve relations and perceptions between younger and older people, and to encourage them to do fun things together.”
Parks and foreshore manager for Worthing Borough Council, Andy Edwards, said: “Local residents have been campaigning for things to do in the area to the east of Splash Point near Windsor Road for some time and this, along with the refurbished picnic area, is a good start in providing a range of fun and healthy activities for all the family”.
More improvements are planned over the summer including more artist studios, a water play splash pad, floodlighting at the sand courts and a new water sports business at East Kiosk.
