Set up by 24-year-old designer Alie Mackintosh during her time at university, Boom Boom the Label has been enjoying the spotlight after celebrities including model and socialite Kim Kardashian were seen wearing the company’s designs.

Turning over £1.5million in its first year, the business is continuing to expand and has recently taken on 18 new staff to help the business grow further.

Boom Boom, based in the Mallings Business Centre, has benefitted from three separate grants through Locate East Sussex, totalling £18,000.

Miss Mackintosh said: “Locate East Sussex has been a huge support to me, providing not only financial help with grants and loans, but also offering me advice and guidance through mentoring.”

The first grant from Locate East Sussex helped establish the business moving from a start-up at home, to a studio. A second grant was used to purchase production equipment.

When ‘Boom Boom’ took on its first additional member of staff, a third grant was used to fund building work on new premises and to purchase additional production equipment.

Director of Locate East Sussex Philip Johnson said: “The success of Boom Boom the Label is among a raft of a creative businesses thriving in East Sussex.

“The funding, along with advice from the Locate East Sussex team, has helped the company grow by over 1,017 percent over the past year, with 60 percent of sales being generated from outside of the UK.”
