Kingston WI: The Parish Hall, decorated for the annual Christmas Party, and members were greeted with a glass of wine for the year's last meeting. Tables were covered with members' contributions of salads, quiches, meats, salmon, condiments and savouries, leaving little space for baskets of French bread, butter and a cheese board. For dessert there were tarts and trifles, puddings and pies, fruits and meringues; a feast for the eyes! Six members' tables were each covered with a Christmas design table cloth, a decoration with candle, Christmas crackers, and a copy of the quiz for later.

At about 6:55 our new president, Vicki told us that the Christmas Market on November 26th 2016 raised £500 for our WI funds, a wonderful effort by many members. There is a Christmas Walk on Monday 19th December meeting at the top of St Pancras Green at 11 am. Lunch arrangements contact D Crabb about your contribution. Tap dancing is to be on 12th and 26th January 2017, 7:30-8:45 and Pilates each Tuesday 2-3pm (not Dec. 27th) both activities at the Parish Hall. The Book Group meets at Barbara’s on Thursday 19th January at 8pm. Craft Group resumes on Fridays 2 – 4pm in the Pavilion and the Choir meets on Fridays 4:30 – 5:30 at Peggy’s.

Now it was time for the first table to choose their food and then table by table the remaining guests followed. Some had seconds of the main course before the desserts were ready for choosing. After the meal everyone had tea or coffee, followed by a presentation to thank Valerie a retiring Committee member and another presentation to thank Beverley our retiring President of three years. The quiz answers were read out by Penny and a prize given to the table that scored the highest points.

Our entertainment for the evening was a ‘Radio’ play, “A WI Inspector Calls” performed with just voices. There were 7 member actors involved with another reading the stage instructions, playing a male character and in charge of sound effects. It was well received and appreciated by the audience with positive comments afterwards. Next, with Peggy at the piano, we all sang carols as a finale.

At our next meeting on 5th January we will discuss the NFWI resolution for 2017, details of which are in the latest WI Life magazine and on the WI website. What a wonderful ending to 2016, with smiles all round.
