KINGSTON WI: At our meeting on November 3, the president told everyone about the chairs. It seems that a parish hall chair collapsed at a bridge club meeting when someone sat on it. They have been inspected and suspect ones removed, meanwhile new chairs have been ordered. It was reported that a second member had a knee operation that was successful. Another member who had a small operation was improving. The secretary gave her annual report of 2016. The treasurer explained the financial statement for year ending September 30 and answered questions from members. It was approved by the president and treasurer and signed by the Financial Examiner. This was followed by the budget for the year beginning October 1, which all members agreed.

Activities and clubs. Pilates, every Tuesday from 3.30pm to 4.30pm; tap dancing, every second and fourth Thursday of the month, both in the parish hall. Book club and walking club take place before this goes to press, so no date yet for December. Choir, is from today, Friday, at 4.30pm and craft club at the Pavilion, Fridays, 2pm to 4pm, but not on November 25. The Lewes Group Carol Service is on December 16 and there will be a visit to Kwik-Fit in Hove on March 30. The forthcoming Christmas Party at 7pm, Friday December 9, requires members to sign up to make a savoury or sweet dish, salad or cheese and biscuits; a board was available for members to add their names. Most arrangements have been made for the Christmas Market on November 26 at the parish hall, with 10 tables for local craftspeople to display and sell their goods from jewellery, food stuffs, and craft items of every kind. WI members will be making soup, cakes and biscuits, serving refreshments and making and selling homemade preserves.

We heard of a scheme for clearing litter from the village for which volunteers are needed to pick up litter from roads that they regularly walk along. Drivers throw litter from their cars onto the banks of Ashcombe Hollow and that Litter Pickers would only be needed once a month for the benefit to be noticed.

Members were asked if they wished to join others already on the committee. One member is replacing a committee member who is leaving. The president has served for three years and is standing down so a new president could be elected. Some tasks that had been done by committee members are now to be done by non-committee members. The next meeting is on December 9 at 7pm at the parish hall. (Helen Dudley).
