KINGSTON WI: At the meeting on June 2, the treasurer reported a healthy balance after 1 member renewed her membership, and with all income and costs. It was reported that one of our members fell and broke her arm and is due to go on holiday very shortly; we wish her well. Activities: A walk in the Barcombe area on Wednesday organised by Jacky Knapp should meet at the end of The Street at 9.30am. Tap Dancing is on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month; next on June 30, from 7.30pm to 8:45pm at Kingston Parish Hall. Pilates, every Tuesday, 2pm to 3pm at Kingston Parish Hall. Choir, Fridays from June 17 at 4.15pm at Peggy Nicholson's house.

The Hailsham Photographic Society introduced an intriguing display of their photos of various and diverse subjects. We were entertained and wowed with 13 different sequences put to music, both in colour and black and white which had us entranced. The first sequence was of their members’ favourite photographs. Other themes were Messing About on the River; The Silk Road, with pictures of beautiful buildings, patterns, tiles and ceilings; and The Shard, of and from. Liz Scott showed her pictures of a holiday: Autumn in the Dales skilfully capturing misty mornings, lovely landscapes, rivers and waterfalls, accompanied by Acker Bilk’s Autumn Leaves. We saw a montage of Birmingham; Storm Clouds of the Hebridean Islands; Natural History pictures of various animals, birds and insects; followed by an old fashioned Steam Fair and all the sights and sounds remembered from the 1950’s, and wonderful photos of New Zealand. The evening ended with pictures that tugged at the heart strings, showing the effects of wars, famines and disaster areas with the theme of Medicine in a troubled world. This show illustrated the skill of the society members and brought out all kinds of emotions in us viewers. We were therefore delighted to learn of an exhibition of their work on Saturday, June 25 from 10am to 4pm, at the Charles Hunt Centre, Vicarage Field, Hailsham.
