An elderly woman living next door was given oxygen by the ambulance service after a severe fire at a Pevensey Chinese takeaway on Wednesday (July 10).

Crews from East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service attended a kitchen fire at Happy Dragon, North Road, where they found a major blaze in the kitchen and heavy smoke logging throughout the building.

Police and ambulance were also in attendance and an urgent request was also sent to UK Power Network and gas officials.

The terrace building has two floors consisting of a ground floor restaurant and a flat above.

Crews used two hose reels, foam, six breathing apparatus, a Positive Pressure Ventilation Fan and hydrant and spent time cutting away and damping down.

A Fire Investigation Officer was requested and the cause deemed accidental.
