They were grilled separately on subjects ranging from the performance and cost of rail services through to the ‘back-door privatisation’ of the NHS.

After his selection, Alan, of Cornfield Close, Littlehampton, said: “I will fight an honest but challenging campaign based on reversing the damage the Lib Dem/Conservative coalition policies have done to many people’s lives and on delivering better representation to all the communities in our constituency”.

Born in Littlehampton, Alan has lived in the area much of his life.

He has been a councillor on Littlehampton Town Council and Arun District Council and a school governor.

In 2001 he stood as parliamentary candidate for Worthing West, achieving the highest vote for Labour in decades. He has been involved in many local campaigns, having played a role in defending the Littlehampton Town Show and fighting to keep the Crown Post Office in The Arcade.
