Lace up thosetrainers and Race For Life

It’s time to don the pink frilly Tu-Tu’s - or anything pink - and spring into step for the annual Cancer Research Uk’s Race For Life to be held in Alexandra Park next month.

Hastings and Rother women are being urged to lace up their trainers and channel their energy into training for either the 5k or 10k event which will be held on Sunday June 14.

Jenny Ainsworth, Cancer Research UK’s Hastings Event Manager, says those who take part don’t have to be fitness experts and the event is a great opportunity for women of all ages, shapes and sizes to kick-start a healthier lifestyle by preparing for their Race for Life event.

She said: “Race for Life events are not competitive. They are not about being fit or fast. It’s about an army of women crossing the finish line together in the fight against cancer.

“Whether you’re a running pro or novice, every step you take around the course will help bring us one step closer to the day when all cancers are cured.”

Research shows that even regular, moderate physical activity can help reduce the risk of cancer, and helping to maintain a healthy body weight has a protective effect in itself. “And that’s why Cancer Research UK is calling on women in Hastings to get moving, lace up their trainers and sign up now,” said Jenny. “The atmosphere is incredibly supportive and pledging to take part, alongside thousands of like-minded women, is a great motivation.

“Whether you choose to walk, jog or charge around the course, you’ll be joining an army of women united in the battle against cancer.”
