Ladies' night in memory of Jack

A LADIES' night, held to raise funds for a stillborn baby's' headstone, raised over £550.

Sidley mum Cathy Sharp, who shared the story of baby Jack’s death in the Bexhill Observer (March 14), needed around £1,000 to buy a headstone for her son.

Along with close friend Vicky Clemans, Cathy arranged the ladies’ night at Sidley Sports club on April 2.

Cathy said the event was “an amazing night”, adding: “We raised a total of £557.10 after expenses. I’d personally like to thank Vicky for helping me organise the evening to raise funds for my son’s headstone and also for supporting me.

“Vicky and I would also like to thank the Sidley Sports Club for letting us use their venue, Gary especially and the bar staff. The local businesses that kindly donated raffle prizes ie the Co-Op, One Stop, Sainsbury’s, Carrolls Florist, The Retreat, Gary Jarvis, Colin the DJ and overall the ladies who attended the evening and dug deep!

“We had a fantastic evening and I’ve been so overwhelmed with the community spirit.”

Cathy said she has already chosen a headstone for baby Jack and just has to think of an appropriate inscription and then she will go ahead and order it.

Cathy hopes that having raised money for her son’s headstone that it will lead on to helping others who may be in a similar situation.

Cathy said: “We’re hoping to do another ladies’ night to raise funds for another baby’s headstone. During this time I’ve also set up a fan page on Facebook called Jack’s Dream, where I shall be auctioning off four tickets to see the Dream Boys.
