Lambs born at Roedean School's farm for first time

Two lambs have been born at Roedean School's farm.

The twins, born to mother Baby J, were welcomed on Friday (March 15) and have been named Gruffalo and Sox.

It is the first time the independent school for girls has turned its hand to breeding.

Farm prefect Millie Hoffman, 13, whose mother Bronwyn Eastwood is the farm vet, witnessed the lambs’ birth.

She said: “I was intrigued to see them being born – it was fascinating. It was over so quickly – they were both born in 50 minutes.”

She added: “I feel really lucky to have been there and have learnt so much.”

The school opened its farm three years ago after headteacher Oliver Blond had the idea to introduce pupils to animal husbandry and to provide a better understanding of farm life.

It has 17 sheep, five goats and 15 chickens, and farm prefects are appointed to help look after the farm animals with head of experiential learning and shepherd Leland Fieldsend.
