The team of 16 boys, aged 11 and 12, is walking, running and cycling the distance from the club in Culver Road, Lancing, to Turf Moor football stadium, the home of Burnley Football Club in Lancashire, and back.

Liz Williams, from the events committee, said they chose Burnley because it was 'a long way away' and set a deadline of the end of February.

The team manager and two coaches are joining in, too, as a way of bringing the whole team together.

Liz said: "We just wanted to do something together, so they are all staying in contact, and when we do go back, it will mean their fitness levels are still good.

"We are walking, running and cycling independently or in our bubbles, adhering to government guidelines."

The team set a target of £602, one pound for every mile, but has already passed that with £640 donated so far.

Liz added: "We have had a charity event for the hospice before and Chestnut Tree House is so grateful.

"Charities have been hit badly during this pandemic and we want to do all we can to raise money for Chestnut Tree House and hopefully keep everyone fit for when we are able to return to grassroots football."
