Landlord pleased with removal of restrictions

THE landlord of a multiple occupancy property called the removal of ‘restrictive’ planning constraints a ‘great result’ at a council planning meeting last Wednesday.

Previous conditions imposed on Sean Adelphie, the owner of the 25 bed property, in Southey Road, Worthing, meant he was originally only given temporary permission to operate the building a bedsits and was required to reside on-site to manage other residents.

This ruling was originally made due to concerns that changing the property from its original use as a care home into multiple occupancy property could affect the character of the area.

Speaking in support of his application to lift current conditions, Mr Adelphie said: “Although I’m the landlord I don’t have any management responsibilities, I employ three management agencies who are the first point of call for the tenants. All tenants are in full time employment and are respectful of others.”

The building was purchased by Mr Adelphie and his mother in 1979 and was run as a care home until 2007.

Councillor Michael Cloake said: “I think it’s testament to the success of this so far that there’s no objections in here. In the three years it’s been running it seems to have been run very professionally.”

The committee unanimously voted to allow Mr Adelphie to manage the property from a separate address and continue to use the building as a multiple occupancy property.

Mr Adelphie said he was very happy with the support he received.
