SUSSEX landscape painter Tom Benjamin has a double celebration on February 25.
He will be launching his new book The Service of Clouds and opening his exhibition of the same name at St Anne’s Galleries in Lewes.
The 60-page book is a survey of his work, past and present, and is illustrated with his coastal and landscape scenes. The introductory essay is by leading art writer Julian Bell.
Tom, 45, has been painting East Sussex and Brighton ever since graduating from Norwich School of Art. “Always an excellent painter, he has become masterly over time,” said St Anne’s curator Sarah O’Kane.
“Tom is out in all weathers and paints directly on the spot, which brings a freshness to his art. His work lets us appreciate anew our lovely landscapes.”
The exhibition will feature around 35 new works. It runs at the gallery, at 111 High Street, Lewes, from February 25-March 4, 10am-5pm Saturdays and Sundays and then by appointment until March 10.
