Residents in Billingshurst were left concerned after power was lost in their homes last night (Wednesday January 13) and throughout today (January 14).

In a series of tweets responding to the issue Southern Energy, who are responsible for providing electricity in the village, explained the cause of the problem and apologised for the inconvenience.

The tweets read: “Last night we had a large fault which would have caused the power to go out completely and then possibly blip out again as we tried to restore the area.

“Today we believe something had blown onto the overhead lines causing one of our safety mechanisms to operate and cause a brief outage, lasting less than three minutes.

“We are not expecting any further issues.”
