Elvis, a 55-year-old security worker at Brighton station, is just one of dozens of inspiring older people in Brighton and Hove to be captured on film by photographer Maria Scard.

The display at Brighton station's boardwalk highlights how many older people serve, volunteer and contribute to their communities.

In the portraits, the subject is placed in the background, or slightly obstructed, inviting the viewer to look beyond their assumptions and see the inspiring older people that make up the community.

The 'Rejuvenation' exhibition by Impact Initiatives was part of the Brighton and Hove Older People’s Festival in September, and was initially going to be on display for two weeks.

But organisers said there was such a good response that Impact Initiatives and Brighton Station agreed to keep it up for longer.

Now is the last chance to see the exhibition, which will finally be leaving the station on March 2.

Caroline Ridley, CEO of Impact Initiatives, said: "We love the exhibition especially how our photographer Maria Scard has captured the many contributions that older people make to our city. We expected it to be a success but have been overwhelmed by the response.

"We still get emails about it particularly saying how the row of smiling faces brightens up people’s journey through the station. Several of the people featured have told us they have been stopped in the street to be told they have been recognised and that they have inspired others to get involved in volunteering which is a great result.

"We will be sad to take it down but all good things must come to an end and we have something special planned for the same space in October this year."
