Last few days to pick favourite name for new Link Road

THERE’S still time to vote for a name for the Link Road - but you only have until Sunday (July 13).

Residents in Rother are being encouraged to pick their favourite name from a shortlist of 17, which was whittled down from the dozens of suggestions from members of the public.

Many of the suggestions draw upon the history and geography of the area, including a bid from a local historian to name the stretch after a World War II spitfire pilot who died defnding Bexhill, Hastings and Crowhurst from the Luftwaffe.

And last week a new name was added to the list, following a campaign by residents in Bexhill.

Residents want to name the new road after Private Robert Wood, a much-loved Bexhill man killed in Afghanistan.

All the names have been selected to avoid clashing with existing road names.

The roads on the shortlist which people are being asked to vote on are: Asten Valley Way, Combe Valley Way, The Combe Valley Link, Combecutting Lane, King Harold Way, King William’s Way, Kingsway, Marsh View Way, Pilot Alfred Davies Way, Pilot Davies Way, The Old Railway, The Spitfire Link, The Valley Bypass, Viaduct Cross, Viaduct Road/ Way, Viking Way, Worsham Valley Way and Robert Wood Way.

A Rother District Council spokesman said: “The naming of the Link Road seems to have really caught the imagination of the people of Rother and we’ve so far received more than 1,500 votes.

“We’d encourage anyone who has not yet voted to do so by Sunday (July 13) to ensure their voice is heard ahead of a final decision being made by planning committee on Thursday (July 17).”

You can do so by voting online at www.rother.gov.uk/article/10386/Naming-the-Link-Road, by emailing [email protected] or writing to Communications, Rother District Council, Town Hall, Bexhill-on-Sea, TN39 3JX.
