Last few days to take part in Sussex Warmer Homes scheme

Until the end of March, Warmer West Sussex is providing residents with a free home visit from a qualified energy expert to assess ways in which the energy efficiency of their homes can be improved to result in warmer homes and to ensure they are receiving all the help they are entitled to.

The energy experts will also show residents they can get further help with the Warm Front grant and local Wellbeing teams.

During the visit, the energy experts will install up to £99 worth of free energy saving devices into each property to help cut the cost of energy bills.

These devices include draught proofing, hot water tank jackets, energy monitors and radiator panels.

The energy expert will also assess whether the property is suitable for loft and cavity wall insulation, which the resident may be entitled to receive free of charge.

The scheme is only running until the end of March and places are limited.

The Warmer West Sussex scheme has been made possible after the local councils across the county were awarded over half a million pounds by the Department of Health to help tackle fuel poverty and increase emergency response capacity during cold weather.

Andrew Baldwin, Horsham District Council Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: “Many households are under enormous pressure to make ends meet, especially due to high fuel bills. This initiative should help prevent some people having to live in an old house this winter.

“The energy advisors will be able to offer useful advice and practical assistance tailored to individuals’ homes. I would encourage anyone that is contacted by Climate Energy to take up the offer of a visit.”
