Laughter for charity in Bognor Regis

The masters of laughter will take to the stage for charity at 7.30pm at the Regis Centre today (April 27) and tomorrow.

At least 15 of them will be performing at the Regis Centre in the town’s first Comedy Fringe Festival.

The event has been staged by seven third-year event management students at the University of Chichester.

One of them, events co-ordinator Lucy Cook, said: “Not only will this event give people a fun-filled night out. But they will also be happy to know it is in aid of the Bognor Regis, Chichester and District Samaritans.

“All profits that are made are going directly to them so they can continue giving the priceless support that has helped so many community members get through hard times in the past.”

Those performing at the Comedy Fringe Festival include Drew Cameron from ITV television show Britain’s Got Talent.

There will also be numerous comedians from the renowned Komedia in Brighton.

They include Jim Davis, Aidan Goatley and Samantha Savage.

Comedy students Mike Reed, Andy Field and Ben Shannon will be on the bill as well.

The festival makes up a substantial percentage of the students’ final grades to make it an important occasion for them.

“So, please come along,” said Lucy. “Not just for the amazing comedians or for the students putting every ounce of effort into the event, but to show support and gratitude to the Samaritans and to help the festival bring happiness and laughter to the community.

“The Samaritans’ branch wants to make this an annual event to give Bognor something else to be proud of.”

The festival is divided into two sections. The comedy fringe has family-friendly material, while the ultimate fringe is more extreme.
