The mighty oak tree that will grow from the sapling planted at Jessie Younghusband School yesterday will be a focal point for generations to come.

Law firm Anderson Rowntree, which has an oak tree in its logo, donated the tree, along with funds for the PTA, and supported the project with a special assembly on trees, local ecology and history.

Partner Will Stisted, who is based at the Chichester office, and David Kempster, owner of Clear Edge Communications, presented the oak tree and a donation for much needed-equipment across the school curriculum.

Before the tree planting ceremony, they led an assembly about oak trees, their longevity, what they have seen through history and what they could witness in the future.

Mr Stisted said: “The oak tree is part of our firm’s logo and symbolises long-lasting support and strength.

“Our firm has been around almost as long as the average oak tree lives and we are very much a part of the communities in which we serve.

“We wanted to give something back for the next generation in Chichester. The ‘Dream Big’ tree will remind the children to strive to reach their dreams and goals, whatever they are and however big, like the tree and, I am sure, the sunflowers that they will grow over the summer.”

Head teacher Mandy Sadler said the school was very grateful for the support.

“We have been delighted to work with David Kempster and Will Stisted from Anderson Rowntree solicitors,” she added.

“The tree will be a powerful symbol to the children to ‘Dream Big’ and we hope it will be enjoyed by many future generations here at Jessie Younghusband School.

“We are also very grateful for the financial donation Anderson Rowntree are making to the school. This will be put to very good use for the benefit of the children.

“Everyone is really excited by the challenge of growing the tallest sunflower. We look forward with great anticipation to seeing the results in September.”
