Law firm Trust donation enableslocal library to keep lending books

The money comes from a Trust administered by three partners of the firm.

The late Edna Johnson, a former solicitor and longstanding client of Gaby Hardwicke, created the trust to assist elderly people in East Sussex.

Trustee David Young, Senior Partner at Gaby Hardwicke, presented a cheque from the trust to the library’s committee recently and was treated to a library tour.

He said: “The library is a wonderful resource in the village and the trust is delighted to be able to contribute in a small way to a much-loved fixture in the lives of so many in the community.”

Little Common Library is a free service for the local community run by volunteers. The library holds over 3,000 books from various genres including general fiction, crime and adventure, biography, travel, military and history.

Gaby Hardwicke partners David Young, Richard Ostle and Antony Caulfield are the trustees of the Edna Johnson Will Trust and meet regularly to administer the trust and make grants to deserving causes.

Other recent beneficiaries of grants from the trust include the Marsham Older People’s Project, Age UK East Sussex, St Michael’s Hospice, Eastbourne Mencap, Friends of the Home Physiotherapy Service (Sussex) and the League of Friends of Bexhill Hospital.

Little Common Library, providing a great service to the local community with is a friendly Library, with volunteers ready to help with book choice and a chat.

There are no charges - it is free to join and you can borrow as many books as you like completely free, with no charges for over-due books.

The library holds over 3,000 books and adds 600 new titles each year.

Categories include general fiction, crime and adventure, biographies, travel, military and history books.

Limited space means the library is unable to expand into other categories as they would wish. The book supply is reliant on donations from local people.
