Alex becomes CEO after spending 13 years with Brighton and Hove City Council where he progressed to director of strategy and governance, and acting CEO.
He began his career as a commercial lawyer in the City before moving into public services.
He said: “I’m fascinated by how public policy law and politics fit together. For me, what is very attractive about this position is that I know about the various stakeholders that you need to make a local authority work, not just the public, health, police, and education sectors, but the commercial and community sectors as well. They share an ambition and that’s enormously important as a local authority because you can’t do everything yourself, you need the commitment and the vision of those people.”
Alex has lived with his family on the Sussex coast for 15 years. He said: “The more I find out about this place, the more I love it. I think the potential for this place is quite astonishing.”
