The charity’s general committee approved nine requests by East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust at its meeting last Thursday.

The sum exceeds the League’s total giving for 2016 and marks a turn-around in its relationship with the Trust.

League chairman Cllr Stuart Earl told Trust chairman David Clayton-Smith and chief executive Dr Adrian Bull at a meeting last year that the charity’s work was being hampered by lack of Trust requests for equipment.

Last Thursday’s meeting had included two hours of presentations by Trust officers to explain their bids. At its conclusion Cllr Earl told colleagues: “We’ve had a busy meeting – but a fruitful one.”

The equipment the League will purchase includes:

*Three Stryker Eye Surgery Stretchers for the Bexhill Ophthalmic Day Unit costing £14,596.

*A £1,518 electrically-adjustable ante and post-natal treatment couch for Bexhill Health Centre
