Leisure centre memorial to former chairman

A plaque has been unveiled at the Freedom Leisure Centre in Vicarage Lane Hailsham, to commemorate the life of the former chairman of Wealden District Council, John Vincent, who represented Westham & Pevensey.

The plaque was unveiled by the Chairman of Wealden District Council, Councillor Mrs Pat Kennedy, in front on an audience of invited guests including fellow councillors and Jeff Hart, managing director of Freedom Leisure.

Cllr Kennedy said:'It is fitting that this memorial to Councillor John Vincent's hard work an dedication to public service is situated in the Freedom Leisure Centre.

'John was a driving force in improving the district's leisure facilities and instrumental in the creation of the Freedom Leisure as a partnership between public and private interest which has delivered a high standard of health and leisure facilities, not only to the people of Wealden, but increasingly to those living further afield.'
