Lessons in living with disability

On Monday, 10th November, Dallington CE Primary School had two very special visitors. Owen and James, from Just Different, came in to talk to the children about disability, the everyday challenges Owen faces and how people with disabilities are still people, they are just different. It was a fascinating insight into Owen’s life. He worked with each class individually; he spoke to the children about growing up, his first wheel chair, his sleeping and feeding needs, his hobbies and how he still manages to play the X Box!

It was a lovely day, the children were fully engaged, with one of them saying “it was really interesting, I never knew he could play the computer! He must be so brave!” The children learnt lots and hopefully began to appreciate the message that we are all just different and will start to look at disability and difference in a positive way!
