It could be a wet and soggy bonfire night in Lewes as forecasters predict heavy rain and winds this afternoon (November 5).

After a dry spell this morning persistent heavy rain is expected to hit the town from around 2pm.

The heavy downfall is expected to last until at least 8pm before becoming lighter.

The wind is also expected to pick up from around 6pm reaching as high a 41mph at times.

The gusts will drop off for the rest of the evening but wind speeds are expected to remain at around 20mph for several hours.
