THREE days of music, markets and street entertainment are planned for Lewes’ first Christmas Festival, from December 1-3.
Shops will be running special promotions, while farmers and chefs compete to create the most delicious food.
The Christmas Festival is an extension of Lewes’ popular Late Night Shopping Evening which is now in its 30th year.
It is run by volunteers from Lewes Chamber of Commerce and independent businesses.
All events are free. Charity collections will raise money for Malling Community Centre, the Linklater Pavilion and St Mary’s Community Centre.
Late Night Shopping takes place today (Thursday December 1) from 5.30pm to 8.30pm.
Fireworks from Lewes Castle will start at 6pm, while Morris Dancers and carol singers will entertain the crowds as shops open their doors.
The Lewes Glynde and Beddingham Brass Band will play traditional music and Santa’s grotto will take up residency in Lewes House, School Hill, from 6pm.
Tasty treats like roast chestnuts, crepes, mulled wine and mulled cider will be on offer at stalls.
The Friday Food Market will open a day early.
High Street will be closed from the Bottleneck to the end of Cliffe High Street from 5.30pm to 8.30pm.
County Hall car park will be open late.
The Friday Food Market will open on Friday December 2 from 9.30am to 1pm.
The market’s independent producers will begin taking orders for turkeys, geese and hams, while assembling hampers of Sussex delicacies.
The Farmers’ Market will take place on Saturday December 3 10am to 1pm.
