Sunday, October 27 was a beautiful Autumn morning, when 14 walkers set off from the Hamsey Riding Stables area to walk around Lewes Racecourse.

On walking out the recce the day before, it was clear that the group would not be able to take the preferred route up through the woods because it was too muddy. But there were other options.

Instead, we took the route via Houndean Rise which led us to the left of the Racecourse. As we walked uphill in the sun, we soon began to warm up and started shedding our top layers of clothing.

We took a gentle stroll passing the Racecourse buildings on our right until we came to the path leading us across the Racecourse.

From here, we walked to the chalk pit area where, as it was such a beautiful sunny clear morning, we could see across the valley to Crowborough.

We then made our way back to the Lewes Prison area and returned to our starting point. The stroll was led by Jean.
