Lewes fun runners help villages in Zambia

Tim Parsons, Branch Manager of Chandlers Building Supplies in Lewes, is encouraging the local community to get their running shoes on and take part in the Barcombe Charity Fun Run to raise money for Project Zambia.

Taking place on Bank Holiday Monday, May 5, at Barcombe Recreation Ground, the event will include a competitive 10k run, a 6k charity fun run, where those competing are encouraged to wear fancy dress and run with a friend, and a children’s mini route around the ground.

Project Zambia supports small villages around Ndola, helping them to become self-sufficient. So far, the charity has already helped to build a toilet block for a school, installed water pumps, connected an electricity supply and given out mosquito nets.

Currently, Project Zambia is raising money to build a small orphanage and to support a feeding programme, with only 75p needed to buy a child a meal.

Mr Parsons, who is the Chairman of Project Zambia, said: “The Barcombe Charity Fun Run is something that the whole family can get involved with and enjoy. All the money raised will go to the charity.”

As well as looking for runners to compete in the races, marshals are also required.

The entry fee for the 10k race is £7.50 per person and competitiors are advised to book their place. The entry fee for the 6k race is £5. Entry forms are available from Barcombe Stores, The Royal Oak and Chandlers’ Lewes branch.
