Lewes Priory School alumni Flora and Rowan Bain will be riding 100 miles for refugees this Sunday 2 August in the big London bike event Prudential RideLondon 2015.
The driving force for the sisters to do this is their personal experience of meeting Syrian refugees on a trip to Lebanon last year.
“We met people who had fled Syria and also saw mothers and children begging on the streets,” said Rowan.
“When we got back to the UK we looked at what we were doing to support refugees, I was ashamed to discover that the UK has accepted less than 200 refugees from Syria since the conflict began in 2011.”
Since returning, the sisters have been supporting campaigns for refugee rights and have been finding out more about how refugees are treated in the UK.
Flora said, “Refugee Council is a much needed positive voice standing up for refugees and supporting those that make it here. “When we heard they had places in Prudential RideLondon we decided to go for it! We’ve never done anything like this distance before with luck and the support of our sponsors we’re determined to make it.”
