LEWES WELCOMES BBC TV PRESENTER SALLY

TELEVISION presenter Sally Taylor returned to Lewes to officially re-open jewellers W.E.Clark and Son - eight months after the floods which devastated the town.

Cliffe High Street was briefly closed for the occasion,which was attended by the Mayor, Cllr John Webber, and Deputy Mayor, Cllr Barbara Riddihough.

Sally Taylor recalled reporting on the floods live for BBC South Today and said she was delighted to see so much of the town restored to its former glory.

The two Clark s shops, on either side of the river, were terribly damaged during the floods.

The showorooms have now been restored to a standard that would grace fashionable streets in any of the world s capitals.

David Stonehouse, a Hatton Garden-trained working jeweller has moved into a workshop at Clark s, and David Clark has returned as the fourth generation of the Clark family to be involved in the business.

Mr Clark presented Alan Keys, president of Lewes Castle Rotary, with a 500 cheque as a gesture of thanks for the sterling salvage work they carried out at Clark s immediately after the floods.

The money will go towards a creche for orphans in Peru.
