Licensees pass test for under-age sales

Staff in six licensed premises around Bognor Regis passed a police test for under-age sales of alcohol.

The businesses were targeted because of reports they were breaking the law by allowing under-18s to buy booze from them.

Visits to them by two young teenage police cadets were arranged for Friday eveningto see how the staff reacted to requests for alcoholic drinks.

PC Emma Cruise, of the Bognor neighbourhood policing team, said: "I am pleased to report none of the six licensed premises allowed the sale of alcohol to our cadets."

The cadets were supported in the operation by uniformed and plain-clothed police officers, police licensing officer PC Dave Whitcombe and Chris Downton of the county trading standards department.

"These visits show the public we are listening to their concerns and actively taking steps to address them," said PC Cruise.
