Lidl is recalling packages of Vitasia 8 Chapattis as its English packaging does not mention its wheat content, which could pose a health risk to anyone with an allergy to wheat or an intolerance to gluten.

Packs with a best before date of August 4 2016 have been affected.

A spokesman for the Food Standards Agency said: “The above product contains wheat (gluten) which is not mentioned on the label in English. This means the product is a health risk to anyone with an allergy to wheat or an intolerance to gluten.

“If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to wheat or an intolerance to gluten, do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where you bought it for a full refund.

“Lidl is recalling the product from customers and has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers.”

In May the supermarket had to recall three other products due to improper labelling: Bavarian Style Smoked Cheese with Ham, Milk Chocolate with Hazelnuts and Bread Baking Mix. All contained allergens which were not mentioned in English on the label.
