Lifeboat launched to group cut off by the tide

Newhaven’s relief Severn Class lifeboat was launched on Thursday, August 20 to reports of people cut off by the incoming spring tides.

HM Coastguards requested Newhaven lifeboat to assist the persons at around 2.40pm following a 999 call from a member of the public.

The crew prepared the inflatable Y-boat while the lifeboat made best speed to the position. Once close to the reported location, the Y-boat was launched with two crew on board.

The inflatable Y boat searched the area from the east of Hope Gap through to the Cuckmere estuary.

The persons reported cut off were located, they were safe and well and still had a safe route to exit the beach. The 999 call was a false alarm with good intent; the lifeboat was then stood down.

The lifeboat returned to station at 3:55pm and ready for service shortly afterwards.
