Lifeboat sails West for refit

THE Newhaven Lifeboat returned to the town last week after undergoing emergency repairs at Sovereign Harbour, Eastbourne.

THE Newhaven Lifeboat returned to the town last week after undergoing emergency repairs at Sovereign Harbour, Eastbourne.

Work was necessary after the boat began taking in water through its propeller drive shaft seals during the dramatic air-sea rescue of two divers a fortnight ago.

Then on Thursday last week the Lifeboat, the David and Elizabeth Acland, was sailed by coxswain Ian Johns and crew to Plymouth to undergo a scheduled refit which is likely to take until January.

Until her return the relief Lifeboat Beth Sell will be stationed at Newhaven.
