Lifeboatgoes to aidof strandedspeedboat

RYE Harbour lifeboat went to the aid of a broken down 16ft speedboat on Sunday at 10.14am.

The boat became stranded on the west side of the Harbour entrance after suffering engine failure and raised an alarm with Dover Coastguard,

The relief lifeboat was used and the casualty was taken in tow and returned safely to the public slipway at Rye Harbour by 10.35am. The volunteer crew then returned to sea to resume their weekly exercise.

Richard Tollett, Lifeboat Operations Manager at Rye Harbour RNLI Lifeboat station said: “It is essential to train on a regular basis as you never know what you are going to encounter.

“If you have some spare time and would like to be part of a dynamic team then becoming a lifeboat volunteer could be what you’re looking for.

“There are many areas that you can cover as an RNLI Volunteer, from fund raising to becoming a member of the lifeboat crew. If you are interested then please visit the lifeboat station on a Sunday morning between 10.30am and midday”.
